Great Quote

Great quote:

"We had Miles Davis open for us at the Hollywood Bowl...I heard Miles playing, so I went into the audience after a while, and Miles had twenty thousand people crouched down. His electric band was pouring fire into the crowd, and these kids were like, cowering under the onslaught. Miles had these big wraparound bug-eyed shades, and he had his back turned to the crowd, and he was playing and scaring the shit out of the audience. But he never took them over the edge, and that's why he was a master, an outrageous artist. He took our crowd to a place they'd never been before. And we had to follow this. So we came out and played one of the worst shows we ever did."
--Rick Danko, late bass player for The Band

I once had a lover who was a big fan of "The Band." Now I understand why he always took that photo of Miles Davis out of his wallet and looked at it before we hopped in the sack.

For the record, it worked. I mean it really worked.

There was a great special on Bob Dylan on PBS.

The saner people like Al Kooper quit the band after getting verbally assaulted every night for a few weeks.

The Band was the only one who would back him up.

Those guys must have had some thick skin.

erin: It didn't work for the Band they gave the worst performance of their life.

zen: I read Levon Helms biography about himself and The Band, he had no harse words for Bob Dylan but he sure does not care for Robbie Roberston.Dylan even played in The Last Waltz maybe he respected them a bit more, I dunno. Do you carry a picture of Miles Davis, and does it help you with the ladies? I think Erin is trying to trick me into some sort of dysfuntion.

I suppose anyone having to follow Miles Davis on stage is going to struggle, though I guess that "The Band" at their worst would still be better than most bands at their best.

You can't beat "Bessie Smith" for a Bob-The Band tune...

Unrelatedly, this is for you, Josh:

Toby: Great point, however the Miles was in a slump, (Sales) The Band, they I would guess gave Miles all respect due...As Zen metioned earlier about Bob Dylan, if they could handle him then maybe Miles was... Never mind, maybe Miles liked The Band...Who Dont.

lee ann: Will do and smae to ya.

I'm no expert, but I guess that Bird was probably sexier than Miles. Taller, at least.

Winters: If in pitted in a cage match Bird would come out ahead.
